Seemingly out of nowhere, Aaron Lennon has found Spurs' second and the winner against Liverpool at home. The decisive moment came in the second of five added minutes of extra time.
Tottenham Vs. Liverpool, Final: Aaron Lennon Finds Stoppage Time Winner For Spurs
Regardless of Liverpool's brave moments over the course of the full 90, Lennon found the winner when a Benoit Assou-Ekotto long ball trickled its way into his path and the quick winger was then able to blow past a sleeping Paul Konchesky for a one on one with Pepe Reina. Lennon struck the ball past Reina to the right and all three points belonged to Spurs.
Moments before the winner, Jermain Defoe netted for Spurs but was ruled offside to the dismay of the home crowd. In the game's dying moments, Spurs really should have had a third when one of their best moves of the day witnessed Lennon push his shot wide of the goal. The missed attempt was the result of a quick counter attack which also saw Luka Modric wide open in front of goal.
The missed attempt didn’t matter as seconds later the ref blew the final whistle. While the back four of Spurs weren’t at their best, Modric, Bale, Lennon and Crouch in attack were solid. The three points gained moves Spurs to fifth in the table while the loss keeps Liverpool at tenth in the table.
