Roy Hodgson's halftime team talk must have penetrated the ears of Dirk Kuyt as the Dutch midfielder has found the leveler at St. James' Park within four minutes of the restart. Newcastle's defending has been quite shaky since the second half's commencement and it capitulated when both of Newcastle's central defenders, Sol Campbel and Steven Taylor, and right back Jose Enrique failed to deal with a relatively mundane ball into the box.
Newcastle United Vs. Liverpool: Reds Equalize Through Dirk Kuyt, Gain Momentum
In a comedy of errors, the ball laughably bounced off the back of Sol Campbell’s head and into the path of Kuyt. Neither Taylor or Enrique could deal with the on rushing Kuyt who’s relatively tame attempt took the slightest of deflections off Taylor and past Tim Krul in the Newcastle goal.
It was a goal Alan Pardew and Newcastle will rue as Liverpool are now well back into the game after creating very little in the game's first 60 minutes. As the second half progresses, Liverpool seem to have found some rhythm. Fernando Torres has come close to finding the go-ahead goal on multiple occasions while Newcastle's momentum has all but vanished.
