It's been a difficult second half for Martin Skrtel, who's lost a number of physical battles to Andy Carroll, Shola Ameobi and substitute Nile Ranger. In the 80th minute at St. James' Park, it was his failure to deal with Ranger that led to Newcastle's second goal, one which is minutes away from proving the match winner.

A ball lofted toward the center of the Liverpool defense aw Skrtel and Ranger go up to contest it. Skrtel was unable to deal with the play, allowing the ball to drop behind him, into the penalty area. Joey Barton cut in from the right, beat right back Glen Johnson to the ball, and poked a shot beyond the oncoming Pepe Reina, scoring from eight yards out. In the 80th minute, the Magpies had regained their lead, 2-1.
Liverpool has since brought on Milan Jovanovic for Maxi Rodriguez, having already had to sub Ryan Babel on for an injured David N'gog. Newcastle has responded by bringing on Alan Smith for Kevin Nolan. With three minutes of regulation time left, the Toon maintains their 2-1 lead.
