The most shocking piece of news surrounding tonight's Manchester United-Arsenal match at Old Trafford has Wojciech Szczesny, who has made only three appearances (in three years) in goal for the Gunners, getting the start for Lucakz Fabianski. At least, that's what speculation holds, based on some loose dot connecting from one innocuous tweet.
Manchester United Vs. Arsenal: Wojciech Szczesny To Start Over Lukasz Fabianski, Verified By Goalkeeper’s Hints On Twitter
@bristol411 Yes I do and I am more then prepared for Rooney tomorrow... :)
The 20-year-old Polish goalkeeper, elevated to Arsenal's number two spot after the demotion of former starter Manuel Alumnia, hinted he would start on Monday in response to a question from one of his followers. When asked if he studies the penalty-taking habits of his opposition before a big match, Szczesny said he did and that he was preparing to face Wayne Rooney on Monday.
Now you might be saying to yourself, “That’s far from conclusive. He may just be playing cheeky with a fan.” OK Captain Cynicism. Granted, but consider reports that Fabianski has failed a fitness test, unable to play thanks to a groin injury suffered in training. Sure, Arsenal doesn’t have Fabianski listed in the injury section of their web site, a page that accounts for the rest of the club’s known injuries, but why are you being so negative, man?
I don’t see why that page and the lack of confirmation from Arsene Wenger should be trusted over a vague tweet. We and the rest of the Twittersphere have enough to go on. Szczesny to start. Sure. Let’s go with that.
