According to recent reports from The Telegraph, Blackburn’s new owners, the VH Group, have pledged £30M in transfer funds to strengthen the club over the course of the next three years. While the manager in charge of Blackburn to spend those set aside funds is still unknown, former Newcastle manager and player and former Blackburn player Alan Shearer has emerged as a likely candidate.
Alan Shearer Rumored To Be Interested In Rovers Return
While former first team coach Steve Kean will likely oversee Blackburn’s transfers in January, it is also understood that Kean will only be given two to three months to prove he’s the man to take Rovers to the next step. On Wednesday, the VH Group’s chairman Anuradha Desai spoke about Kean’s appointment and future:
“We will give Steve two to three months to prove his mettle. Suppose he turns out to be good, then he continues as the manager. He has been given the time and if he does well and proves himself, there is no doubt in our mind he would be the manager forever”.
Former Argentina national manager and legend Diego Maradona recently expressed interest in Blackburn’s vacancy, yet Desai has in fact dismissed any rumors promoting a potential working relationship with Maradona and Blackburn Rovers.
Also according to The Telegraph, Alan Shearer has expressed interest in making a return to the Premier League as Blackburn’s manager though no formal discussions have taken place. While every paper in England has reports of Shearer’s interest in the position, it’s also understood that Shearer would only consider a return to the club he won the 1994-95 Premier League title with if he was granted the transfer policy assurances he so desired.
