Wolves arrived at Molineux today knowing that West Ham beat Fulham 3-1 in the early match, and in order to stay out of the EPL basement they'd need a win. Unfortunately for the home side, Wigan found two goals in the first twenty minutes, which turned out to be sufficient for the win.
Wolves Vs. Wigan: Despite A Last Minute Goal From Steven Fletcher, Wigan Beat Wolves 2-1
While Wolves found their goal in the 87th minute, when a ball bounced off a Wigan defender to the foot of Steven Fletcher, allowing the striker to simply poke the ball into the net. The true surprise is that it took nearly the entire second half for Wolves to find a goal. They certainly had plenty of chances, with the Wigan defense seemingly falling apart with every attack, but somehow in the scramble the Latics always managed to bundle the ball out.
With Wigan's 2-1 victory over Wolves (only their second away victory this season), they climb out of the relegation zone into 16th place, leaving Fulham to slip down and take their place. Wolves, at bottom, have 15 points in 18 games, and not much about that match will convince observers that Wolverhampton deserve another season in the top flight.
