A great movement from Spurs has given Tottenham a 1-0 lead after a tough first 20 minutes at Villa Park. Finishing a cross from Alan Hutton, Rafael van der Vaart opened his right foot on a ball from eight yards out, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute.

After going close in the opening minutes, Villa had played behind the match save one great chance on the counter for Gabriel Agbonlahor. Martin Atkinson's want to keep his whistle silent had slowed Spurs' attack, but in the 24th minute, Spurs found a way around Villa's wayward tackles and onto goal.
A ball headed down inside Villa's head came back to Luka Modric, who swung the ball wide to Alan Hutton, The Spurs right back had an abandoned flank in front of him, allowing him to get within 10 yards of the byline before rolling a poor cross into the area. James Collins overran the ball, seeing the pass slowing move to his right for van der Vaart, who had an easy finish from just outside the six yard box.
