A great goal from an unexpected source has given Fulham a much-needed lead at the Brittania. Coming off a disappointing weekend performance, the Cottagers grabbed a fourth minute lead at Stoke, with Chris Baird doing the honors.
Stoke City Vs. Fulham: Chris Baird Puts Cottagers Up Early
The goal came on a blast from just outside the area, with Baird laying his right foot on a ball that went across the face of goal, crashed into the right post and in, giving Asmir Begovic no chance. With three minutes gone, the Fulham right back's first goal of the season have his relegation-embattled Cottages with a surprise lead.
Fulham has only two wins this season, none away from Craven Cottage. They’d only scored six times in eight away matches before Baird’s goal, and with their 3-1 loss at the weekend to previously 20th place West Ham, the Cottagers fell to 18th place. With manager Mark Hughes’ performance under increased scrutiny, Baird’s goal is a welcome reprieve, putting a positive bend on Fulham’s recent problems.
