One of the most entertaining half of soccer this season left Wigan and Stoke City drawn 2-2 at intermission. Unfortunately, that 45 spent all the goals. Wigan and Stoke City would split points at the DW, keeping Stoke in the league’s top half, Wigan in the drop zone.
Wigan Athletic Vs. Stoke City: Scoreless Second Half Leaves Sides Drawn, 2-2
Stoke opened the scoring just before the 20 minute mark when Robert Huth banged home a direct kick. Wigan converted their down set piece shortly thereafter, Antolín Alcaraz tipping home a Tom Cleverley ball. Stoke would quickly respond through Matthew Etherington, set-up by Kenwyne Jones and Ricardo Fuller, though Wigan responded nine minutes later, with a deflected ball giving Cleverley a goal.
The second half saw more ambition but fewer clear chances, leaving each side to take a point at full time. The result temporarily moves Stoke into seventh, pending Sunderland’s result tomorrow. Wigan is now on 15 points, even with Fulham, though goal difference keeps the Latics in 18th place.
