Liverpool Vs. Aston Villa: Ryan Babel Doubles Reds Lead In 16th Minute

It is a rare start for Ryan Babel, getting the call while Fernando Torres is tending to his pregnant wife. The Netherlands international, starting at forward along side David N’Gog, has taken advantage of the playing time, if controversially, his 16th minute goal coming from a seemingly offside position.

At least, that what replays showed when Ryan Babel sprinted for a ball put behind the Aston Villa defense. In the channel between James Collins and Stephen Warnock, Babel appeared half a body’s length offside when he beat the defense to the ball and, from the right side of the penalty area, finished just inside Brad Friedel’s far post, giving Liverpool a 2-0 lead.

Babel’s goal came two minutes after David N’Gog gave Liverpool the lead, finishing a corner kick. Now in the 26th minute, Villa is in danger of falling further behind, notably behind the play after a decent start.
