The second-best part of the 2010 World Cup was probably the soccer. Maybe. Though, it may have been the vuvuzelas. We’re only debating that because obviously the highlight was announcer Ian Darke, who was knowledgeable, passionate, witty, sharp, quick, and in general, awesome. Submitted as Exhibit A:
Go, Go! Ian Darke Joining ESPN As Its Lead Soccer Voice
Which explains the apparently unanimous positive response to Friday’s news that Darke will be joining ESPN as its “lead voice on all soccer platforms, including U.S. National team games.”
Additionally, Darke will call the 2014 World Cup for ESPN, as well as marquee MLS games (when it doesn’t conflict with his English Premier League duties).
According ESPN’s release, Darke will make his debut Saturday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 a.m. ET, at the Manchester City vs. Chelsea match.
“I am delighted and excited to be joining such a polished and talented team as ESPN. It was wonderful to be calling the USA’s dramatic World Cup campaign for American audiences - and I am flattered to be asked back on a permanent basis.”
“Go, Go USA!”
