Inter Milan continue their unbeaten run under Leonardo, with three league wins and one Coppa Italia triumph since the Brazilian took over from Rafael Benitez. The treble-winners have looked every bit a world class club in 2011, tearing apart defenses through the likes of Esteban Cambiasso, Maicon, Dejan Stanković, Diego Milito and Samuel Eto'o. The latter bagged a brace today, while both Milito and Stanković got on the scoresheet. Bologna found a consolation goal in the 77th minute, when Henry Giménez scored off a corner kick, but the match seemed destined to belong to Inter from the outset.
Inter Milan Vs. Bologna: Samuel Eto’o Bags A Brace In 4-1 Win
Although Inter took charge from the first kick, it did take the home side a full twenty minutes to find the net, with Stanković opening the account. The midfielder was helped along by a pinpoint pass from Samuel Eto’o, and needed simply to tap the ball into the net.
Inter’s second goal came through Diego Milito, ending the Argentine’s goalless drought. Emiliano Viviano should have easily saved the shot, but could only flap his hands at the ball. And so the teams went into the halftime break, Inter leading 2-0.
After the restart, Bologna looked revitalized, pressuring Inter with wave after wave of attack. Yet it was the Nerazzurri that kept scoring, with Samuel Eto’o collecting a brace inside ten minutes. His second, and Inter’s fourth, came off a well-taken free kick, but it was the first that was a thing of beauty. Eto’o danced his way into the Bologna area before nutmegging one of the Rossoblu. Milito didn’t pause but instantly backheeled the ball back to Eto’o, who neatly put the ball past a diving Viviano and into the far corner of the net.
Inter now share fourth place with Roma and are just eight points behind rivals AC Milan. Granted, both of those clubs play tomorrow, but even so, Inter will still have two games in hand. Dreams of a scudetto repeat? They’re not so laughable anymore.
