The final whistle has blown at Anfield where Liverpool has drawn 2-2 with Everton in what was at times an open, dramatic and entertaining match. Odd though that a game that started with so much hype and anticipation has gone quite the long way in settling absolutely nothing for either side, at least as it pertains to the Premier League table.
Liverpool Vs. Everton: Exciting Merseyside Derby Ends 2-2
With the point a piece earned, both sides remain level on points and stay in the same position as they were before the match, which also equals just four points off the relegation zone. For Manager Kenny Dalglish, he’s now lost two and drawn one in all competitions as Liverpool manager while it looks like time will be needed to right a ship that’s gone so wrong at Liverpool.
Everton's story is quite similar. While neither side should realistically be expected to go down, Newcastle proved two years ago that no team is too big to drop down a division. However, both managers can take positives away from today's derby. Jermaine Beckford scored a big goal in a big match and for Liverpool, Raul Meireles turned in one of his best performances as a Red while Dirk Kuyt and Fernando Torres showed sharpness up front.
Sunday's result also wraps up another year of Merseyside derbies with Everton winning the first in October at Goodison Park and Sunday's result ending all square at 2-2 at Anfield. Goals for the Reds coming from the aforementioned Meireles and Kuyt while Everton's two goals came from Beckford and Sylvain Distin.
