Barcelona May Play MLS All-Stars At New Sporting Kansas City Stadium, Daily Soccer Fix Says
Way back during the MLS Cup, rumors were circulating that Barcelona may be the team to be paired up against the MLS All-Stars this year and that the game was likely to be played in the new Sporting Kansas City stadium. As The Daily Soccer Fix’s Steve Davis reports, this is starting to look more and more like it could come to fruition. The expense of bringing in Barcelona for a one-stop tour appears to have been the biggest stumbling block. Now that they have announced plans for a full North American tour, that’s no loner an issue.
I’d say that a Barcelona appearance against the MLS All-Stars is looking more likely, and Kansas City is gaining steam as the odds-on favorite venue.
This would seem to be just the latest smart move by Sporting Kansas City owners OnGoal. While the renaming of their team has been largely panned, just about every big decision they've made is hard to not like. In the past few months alone, they've signed Omar Bravo as a Designated Player, broken ground on what promises to be a gorgeous new stadium and generally shown Kansas City soccer fans that they mean business.
