After what seemed like an eternity, but what was actually less than 22 minutes, Robin van Persie has opened the scoring for Arsenal at the Emirates. The Gunners have had the majority of the chances, with Wojciech Szczesny having not even been tested by Wigan. On the other end, Arsenal have repeatedly assaulted Ali Al Habsi's net, but the Wigan keeper made an excellent string of saves to deny the likes of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fàbregas.
Arsenal Vs. Wigan: Robin Van Persie Gives Gunners The Lead
But in the 22nd minute, Al Habsi was finally beaten, and it was partially by his own defender. Alex Song sent a through ball in to van Persie, who appeared as though he was offside. Unfortunately for the visitors, Maynor Figueroa was playing the striker onside, making it simple for van Persie to simply tap the ball in.
1-0 Arsenal and while it seems inevitable that the home side has more goals in them, it also appears that Wigan have somehow managed to set a force field around their goal to ensure more balls do not find their way into the back of the net.
