Twenty-one minutes after scoring his first league goal of the season, Kieran Richardson has doubled his haul, giving Sunderland a 2-0 lead at Bloomfield Road. Finishing the work done down the left side by Stede Malbranque, Richardson slotted a low ball inside the left post of Richard Kingson, giving the Black Cats a 2-0 lead after 36 minutes.
Blackpool Vs. Sunderland: Kieran Richardson Brace Has Black Cats Up 2-0
Richardson had only one goal last season, but against a Blackpool team that has been caught out twice, Richardson's ability to come into the play from midfield has led to two, straight-forward goals. The first, in the 15th minute, was on a counter built through Asamoah Gyan. This time, Malbranque broke down the left wing, opening up Blackpool's defense for Richardson to run onto the midfielder's cross. Kingson, coming across goal to try and get in position, had little chance.
Sunderland is playing their first match without Darren Bent, sold mid-week to Aston Villa. despite losing their leading scorer, Steve Bruce's charge has felt no ill-effects. In fact, the first goal could be argued as one Bent is no apt to set-up. Regardless, Sunderland has jumped-out to a convincing 2-0 lead on Blackpool.
