Birmingham's comeback has reached another level four minutes into extra time, with midfielder Craig Gardner's goal from 20-yards out putting the Blues up 4-3 in their Carling Cup semifinal against West Ham United. Having scored two second half goals to force the extra period, Birmingham has, in an hours time, gone from the brink of elimination to the edge of Wembley, now 26 minutes away from a cup final.

The goal started at the feet of Stephen Carr, the Blues right back carrying the ball forward, into the attacking third, before finding Gardner. Given ample time to line up his shot, Gardner found a corner on Robert Green, who again got little help from his defense.
Birmingham got goals from Lee Bowyer and Robert Johnson to force the extra period, able to carry forward the momentum of their two goals into extra time. Gardner's goal was the first goal was the Blues' first of the day from open play, the preceding two coming from corner kicks.
