86 Forever: Don’t Hold Your Breath On Robbie Keane Joining Vancouver Whitecaps
There's no question the Vancouver Whitecaps are in serious need of someone who is capable of scoring goals. A quick glance at their roster reveals that Atiba Harris is their most decorated goal scorer, notching 15 goals in five MLS seasons. John Thorrington is next on the list with eight career goals in six MLS seasons.
So, it's perfectly understandable that Whitecaps fans are very excited about the persistent rumors of Robbie Keane joining their side. Unfortunately, 86 Forever's Benjamin Massey throws some cold water on anyone planning on Keane to save the day.
The reason Keane won’t be a Whitecap isn’t because he wouldn’t be brilliant. It’s because he has no reason to come over here. Why would he play at a lower level for probably less money than he has to, and why would Tottenham take less money to get rid of him? I’d love it, but it won’t happen.
Massey is equally skeptical of reports that Andrew Ornoch, a 25-year-old Canadian striker who’s currently out of contract after playing the last few years in Europe. Ornoch is intriguing mostly because he’s played for the Canadian national team and still relatively young, but has never shown a real scoring touch.
So why am I so skeptical? Because Andrew Ornoch, to put it harshly, isn’t that good.
