If Not David Luiz, Please Let Chelsea Have A Back-Up Plan - We Ain’t Got No History
It should go without staying that Chelsea and their supporters are hoping their season will not be defined by the precarious health of John Terry and, since Branislav Ivanovic is his best cover, José Bosingwa, but with today's news out of Lisbon, that possibility is looming larger. Chelsea can hope for an uptick in fitness for both Terry and Bosingwa, or they could hope another transfer candidate steps into the void left by Benfica and David Luiz, with the reigning Portuguese champions confirming they will not be selling Luiz this window.
Over at SB Nation’s Chelsea community blog, We Ain’t Got No History, site manager Graham MacAree has not taken the news well. He prays for a back-up plan while ruing the recent dalliance with Fernando Torres:
I really, really hope we have some sort of backup plan to take care of central defence, because uh, we still don't have any depth there. There are a few options left for Chelsea to pursue - they have a known interest in Danish centre back Simon Kjaer and Athletico Madrid's Diego Godin - but Chelsea have very little time to work with right now. Incidentally, if Roman Abramovich has diverted funds from Luiz to make a playboy bid for Torres, which seems possible albeit insane, I may explode.
Which brings me to the ultimate point of this post. Are you a Chelsea fan? Are you not prone to spontaneous explosions? Or, better, are you not prone to explosions of any kind? And do you like to write? Because if so, oh do we have a job for you, because if and when Fernando Torres is confirmed to the Blues, there's going to be a huge vacancy at our Chelsea blog (though there may be some one time, nausea-inducing clean-up to do).
If interested, your point of contact is ... uh-oh ... Hey, are you interested in helping get new blogs started? While you think about that, check out We Ain’t Got No History, SB Nation’s Chelsea FC community blog.
