For a good 90 minutes, the local clasico between Estudiantes Tecos and Chivas Guadalajara was one of the worst matches of football I’ve ever seen. But don’t take my word for it!
Estudiantes Tecos Vs. Chivas Guadalajara: 1-0 Full Time, Goats Embarrassed In Clasico
@kevinmccauley Just in: US Govt is considering broadcasting this Chivas-Tecos match on an endless loop to the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay
Of course, this was up until stoppage time. In stoppage time, former Chivas USA man Eduardo Lillingston, who came on as a substitute, hit a close range shot to the far post, past Luis Michel for a goal. Inexplicably, Tecos are now on six points through four games, precisely six points more than I would have guessed they would have at this point in the beginning of the season.
Going back into the 2010 Apertura, Chivas have failed to win eight of their last nine matches, with seven of those non-wins being 0-0 or 1-1 draws. They are almost certainly the least entertaining team in Mexico. The MLS season hasn’t started yet, but they could challenge their American affiliates, the New England Revolution, and the Columbus Crew for least entertaining team in North America. They’re astonishing.
While Tecos did win this game, they were pretty bad throughout and didn’t give us any reason to believe that Liguilla is legitimately within reach. Honestly, tonight, the real winners were Atlas, who are unquestionably the best team in Guadalajara.
