Santos Laguna and Jaguares de Chiapas came out of the gate playing wide open, entertaining football in their Mexican Primera match this evening, much to the surprise of absolutely no one. Both of these teams are known for their wide open, sometimes borderline reckless styles. It surprisingly took a whole 36 minutes, but someone found a first half goal.
Jaguares De Chiapas Vs. Santos Laguna: Cristian Benitez Puts Visitors Ahead
Fernando Arce of Santos was the architect, cutting inside from his right wing position and dribbling through a flurry of orange. Eventually, when he ran out of places to go, he slotted a pass into the box where “Chucho” Cristian Benitez was waiting. Somehow, the most lethal finisher on the North American continent was left unmarked, and had plenty of time to settle himself for an attempt on goal. He took two touches, got the ball onto his right foot, and finished hard and low to the far post, past Jaguares keeper Gerardo Daniel Ruiz.
If you’re a big fan of goals, flip on Azteca America or ESPN Deportes. I’ll bet any of our readers a tenner that Chucho’s goal will not be the last one of the night. Jaguares have been threatening as well, with Jorge Rodriguez looking especially dangerous.
