Liverpool ‘Highly Unlikely’ To Acquire Charlie Adam Today

In a Sky Sports News interview earlier today, Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has confirmed that Liverpool are currently not in talks for midfielder Charlie Adam and, in his opinion, 'highly unlikely' to secure Adam before the transfer window closes in less than six hours. Oyston refused to discuss any Blackpool player or recruit save Adam, but he did reveal that he believes Liverpool £50M Fernando Torres windfall will be spent elsewhere (ed: presumably on Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll).

Blackpool purchased Adam for £500,000 from Glasgow Rangers after a successful loan spell with the then-Championship side, and the midfielder led the Tangerines to promotion to the Premier League in his initial season and has continued to inspire with brilliant performances as Ian Holloway's side has taken the division by storm with several swashbuckling performances. With just eighteen months left on his contract, Adam has been targetted by several teams, including Liverpool, Aston Villa, and possibly Manchester United. However, Blackpool are unlikely to sell one of the players most important to their hopes of staving off relegation with no time left to purchase a replacement this winter.
