Blackburn Vs. Liverpool: Benjani Doubles Blackburn’s Lead

Benjani is still a Premier League player. We were reminded this weekend when Steve Kean found him on Blackburn's bench. Today the Zimbabwean attacker got a surprise start, making his inclusion pay-off for Rovers. In the 38th minute at Ewood Park, Benjani's given his team a 2-0 lead over visiting Liverpool.

The goal came from a dead ball granted on Blackburn's left flank. Twenty-eight yards from goal, Morten Gamst Pedersen played a ball to the right part of the area, 10 yards from the line. The pass targeted Benjani who, with a man on his back, trapped the ball back and toward the middle of the area. The play allowed the striker to separate from his mark and turn on a right footed shot, a ball that went into the top of Pepe Reina's net.

With the teams now going in to half time, Rovers have a lead that could send them back into the table’s top half. Liverpool, should they fail to close this gap over the last 45 minutes, will be thrown back toward crisis mode, with their weekend victory being forgotten while Roy Hodgson’s job security’s debated.
