MLS Mock Draft: Vancouver Whitecaps Select John Rooney With First Pick Of Second Round
Benjamin Massey (Eighty Six Forever): Please, save your giggles. Rooney is a marketing asset, of course. He'll get attention and put proverbial butts in proverbial seats. The sort of thing everybody hates. But he's also a fairly tall, athletic striker. He's twenty years old. People focus on his poor scoring record in limited action with Macclesfield Town, but he drew very good reviews. League Two has produced some very useful North American players out of its role players in the past, not least of whom were Vancouver's own Terry Dunfield. A sturdy, quick, relatively powerful striker who's only twenty years old, and I'm spending a second-round pick on him. Marketing aside, this is a pick worth risking.
Drew Epperley (WV Hooligan): Oh John Rooney. He's young, as fairly unknown other than in name. But he's earned some solid reviews on this side of the globe so why not? Vancouver doesn't have all that much to lose with a pick like this really.
