Just over a year after his arrival from Chivas Guadalajara on what was believed to be a £10 million fee, Mexican international striker Javier Hernandez has signed a five-year contract extension with the club. Once on wages that were among the most affordable for strikers getting regular playing time in the Premier League, Chicharito is now expected to join the ranks of the Red Devils' highest earners.

Hernandez is the second young player to sign an extension in the last week, as Tom Cleverley has also signed a contract extension. Danny Welbeck is also believed to be in negotiations over a new long-term contract.
Since arriving from Chivas, Hernandez has scored 22 goals for Manchester United, with 20 of those goals coming last season across all competitions. Hernandez has also established himself as the first choice center forward for Mexico, for whom he has scored 22 goals in 31 appearances while appearing in World Cup 2010 and winning Gold Cup 2011.
