Yeah, Barcelona were always going to win this game. Going into the match, Racing Santander were 19th in La Liga, having won a grand total of zero matches. Barcelona, meanwhile... are, well, they're Barcelona. If you don't know who they are I have to assume you've stumbled upon this website by mistake.
Barcelona Vs. Racing Santander, 2011 La Liga: Leo Messi Gets Brace, Barcelona Cruise To 3-0 Win
Anyway, Pep Guardiola’s side got the party started early with a Lionel-Messi-is-a-magician sort of goal (the video is pretty fun) and Xavi completely killed off the match with a 25th minute header past poor Racing goalkeeper Tono. Messi added another later when Andres Iniesta (who was excellent throughout) was rewarded for skipping brilliantly through a mass of green shirts by seeing his measured shot crash back off the post right back into the path of the Argentine, but that was wholly unnecessary - Barcelona had the game won and there was no way Racing were going to threaten their unscored-upon-at-home run.
At half time, I pointed out that the hosts had an astonishing 82 percent of the possession against their less-than-illustrious opponents. Amazingly, that figure grew in the second half. It’s slightly surprising that Racing had any shots at all. Anyway, Barcelona got the 3-0 win and go top, a point ahead of Real Madrid, although Levante can catch them with a win against Malaga on Sunday.
