Veteran Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen will miss at least the next four months after suffering a badly broken right leg in new club AEK Athens’ league match against Olympiakos on Saturday, being stretchered off shortly after halftime with what his team has confirmed is a double break of the tibia and fibula. The forward had only been with Athens since July after signing with the club on a free transfer following a loan spell at Fulham.
Eidur Gudjohnsen Suffers Broken Leg In Greek Match
Veteran Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen’s career could be over after the 33-year-old suffered a double break of his right leg in AEK Athens’ 1-1 draw with Olympiakos on Saturday.

Although the prognosis is a four-month recovery time, Gudjohnsen is 33 years old and this could well spell the end of a glittering career which has seen him star for Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea and Barcelona. In addition to his domestic honours (capped by two Premier League trophies, a La Liga title and a Champions League win) Gudjohnsen is also the top goalscorer in Icelandic history. If this is the end, it’s a horrible way for an excellent, always-underrated player to go out. Here’s hoping it isn’t.
