With Jaguares Chiapas and Atlante both on the edges of Liguilla competition and with talent who can score from nothing, it’s not terribly surprising that both teams took a more pragmatic approach than usual on Saturday night. In the end, both teams will likely walk away from the match satisfied, as they split the points in a 1-1 draw that was light on clear-cut scoring chances.
Jaguares Chiapas Vs. Atlante, 2011 Apertura: Full Time, 1-1 Draw A Fair Result
The first half was a bit dull to say the least, as it functioned as a bit of a feeling out process. The teams both got a bit more ambitious in pressing for a goal in the second half, but it took a long time for the game to open up. Jaguares’ Colombian international striker Jackson Martinez scored in the 57th minute to break the deadlock and a personal scoring drought, and from that point on, the match was much more entertaining.
Atlante pushed for an equalizer for 15-plus minutes and finally found it, though in somewhat lucky fashion. Osvaldo Martinez went down a bit easy in the area to win a penalty in the 74th minute, then stepped up and converted it himself, giving his team a vital equalizer. Both teams created some half chances between then and the end of the game, but nothing came of them as the match ended 1-1.
