Club Tijuana have been a slight disappointment in their first season in the Mexican Primera, but it seems like the new boys are finally finding their footing and inching away from the relegation spot. The Xolos are now on 12 points from 13 games and just a couple of wins away from getting themselves off the bottom of the coefficients, thanks to a 3-2 home win over Ligulla hopefuls Pachuca.

Things didn’t start off well for the Xolos, with Joshua Abrego putting in a 21st minute own goal off of a cross by Mauro Cejas. Raul Arambula would answer just before the break to send the teams into the locker room tied, however, hitting a fantastic direct free kick from 20 yards out to tie the score up at 1-1 in the 42nd minute.
It didn’t take long for Xolos to take their first lead, as defender Juan Santiago scored with a fantastic header on a corner kick in the 48th minute. Xolos didn’t look terribly under threat afterwards, but offseason signing Elias Hernandez proved why he was one of the best acquisitions of the year, equalizing for the Tuzos in the 62nd minute.
The Xolos would find their winner shortly afterwards, and they did it the same way they found their first go-ahead goal. Santiago completed a brace in the 68th minute, putting in yet another brilliant headed goal on a corner kick. The Tuzos would threaten for the rest of the match, but couldn’t break down the door as the Xolos held on for an important victory in front of a raucous home crowd.
