Newcastle United Vs. Tottenham Hotspur, 2011 Premier League: Jermaine Defoe Regains Lead For Spurs

In the first half, this game was dullness incarnate. No longer - it's turning into a really good match of football. Newcastle had drawn level shortly after halftime, but level pegging lasted just twenty minutes before Spurs managed to regain their lead. Scott Parker isn't necessarily known for his attacking prowess, but he's been putting on something of a show in the last few minutes, playing in a pair of utterly delightful passes to his strikers.

The first, to Emmanuel Adebayor, was barely nicked away by Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul, but the second resulted in Tottenham's 68th minute goal. Adebayor dummied to allow substitute Jermain Defoe to receive possession at the top of the Newcastle box, and the England striker was able to wiggle his way into some space and get a vicious long-range shot away, scorching past Krul and into the bottom corner. That makes it 2-1 Tottenham, and Newcastle's unbeaten record is once again under real threat.
