APOEL Nicosia were supposed to be the minnows of Group G in the UEFA Champions League, but after getting a 1-1 draw in Portugal against FC Porto on Wednesday they are still undefeated, with two of those results coming away from home. They’re at the top of the group and getting dangerously close to the point where we can’t call their getting results shocks anymore. Maybe the little club from Cyprus is just flat out good?

Wednesday’s match saw most of its action early on. Porto got on the scoreboard first when Hulk struck a free kick hard and low at the near post. It was a strike that Dionisis Chiotis should stop 10 times out of 10, but the keeper let the ball by him and into the net for the opening tally. Just six minutes later though, Alto Almeida danced around a defender then ripped a great shot at the far post for the equalizer.
After a mid-match lull, both teams had chances to win it late on. Porto had several, but they struggled to put the ball on frame. Instead, the shots found their way over the bar or wide of the goal. APOEL had the best chance though when Aldo Adorno got the ball 15 yards from goal with no defenders around him, but Helton came out to make a great save and the 1-1 draw would stand.
