Former England manager Steve McClaren is now also former Nottingham Forest manager Steve McClaren. The 50-year-old, who had previously led Wolfsburg to Bundesliga disappointment in the 2010/11 season, was equally poor with the nPower Championship side - after ten games in charge Forest have just eight points, with six defeats putting them dangerously close to the relegation zone. McClaren was supposed to be the man leading Forest to a new dawn after the club came up short in the playoffs last season, but this was hardly what the club has been looking for. The final straw? Throwing away a 1-0 second half lead at home against Birmingham, who scored three times in the final 15 minutes to earn a 3-1 win at the City Ground.

Former England, Twente and Wolsburg manager Steve McClaren has resigned from his role as Nottingham Forest boss after just four months in charge.
Truth be told, it’s more likely that the Forest squad he inherited was never as good as their finishing position last season and McClaren was handed a nigh-on impossible job. Nevertheless, this is yet another disappointing showing from a man who a few years ago was regarded as one of the brightest managerial prospects around. He only manager to recover from his England national team disaster by an exile to the Eredivisie, so it’s an open question as to what’s next after failure in Germany and England. Italy? Russia? Major League Soccer?
Anyway, McClaren isn’t the only victim of Forest’s poor start to the season - the rumour mill has chairman Nigel Doughty out as well. It’s been a rough couple of months for the club, and it’ll be interesting to see just how they manage to recover.
