Nottingham Forest Chairman Nigel Doughty Follows Steve McClaren Out Of Club

Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Steve McClaren isn’t the only man out of the club following the fallout of a terrible opening to the 2011/12 season. McClaren had only been in charge for four months, but the other victim of Forest’s poor play is chairman Nigel Doughty, a ten-year veteran of the club. The team released the following statement on its official site:

[T]he club have failed in its ultimate aim to both retain and regain Premiership status.
Part of the role of Chairman is to accept responsibility for what happens at the club. As such, Mr Doughty accepts responsibility for his personal decision to recruit Steve McClaren as our Manager in the close season. Given our very poor start to the season and Steve’s resignation today Mr Doughty feels it is only right to do so.

From the outside, this whole situation seems as though Forest have overreached themselves rather severely in making a push to return to the Premier League, and now everyone involved is paying the price. Yikes.
