Ex-Nottingham Forest Chairman On Steve McClaren’s Hiring: ‘A Bad Decision All Round’

Nottingham Forest have been shaken up by the resignations of manager Steve McClaren and chairman Nigel Doughty, and there’s no doubt now that the whole organisation realises that a big mistake was made in taking McClaren aboard this June. Now the former chairman has described the former England manager’s appointement as ‘a bad decision all round’:

Doughty on BBC Radio Notts: 'We should have been more thorough when we appointed Steve. It was a bad decision all round'

Some pretty harsh words for himself and his team there. Obviously, things haven’t worked out, and both McClaren and Doughty have paid the price for it. The obvious question is why it happened. Did Forest really believe that they were going to be able to saunter back into the top flight? That McClaren would lead them to a glorious new dawn? What was the plan? Was there a plan? If so, it’s no good to say ‘it went wrong’. If Forest want to progress, they have to know what failed, and why.
