Portland Timbers Vs. Vancouver Whitecaps, 2011 MLS: Kenny Cooper Has Timbers Up 1-0 At Half
The Timbers got their goal off a Whitecaps mistake. Alain Rochat sent a pass into the middle of the field that Diego Chara was able to pick off and get the counter-strike going the other way. Cooper received the ball on the outside edge of the penalty area and one-timed a shot into the far right corner.
The Timbers came into the game knowing that they essentially needed to win to have any chance of making the playoffs. They currently trail the New York Red Bulls by three points for the final playoff spot.
The Whitecaps have had some opportunities of their own. Camilo Sanvezzo and Davide Chiumiento have each had quality chances, but sent their shots just wide. Chiumiento, in particular, appeared to have scored, but his ball was actually in the side netting.
