Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was apparently right to be very worried about the injury sustained by right back Bacary Sagna during his team's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday - reports are circulating that what seemed like an ankle problem is actually a broken fibula:

That, obviously, is terrible news. It's even worse considering that the contact on the play was basically entirely innocuous - Sagna and Benoit Assou-Ekotto came together in the air for a 50-50 ball, with Sagan arriving a little late and both landing awkwardly. While Assou-Ekotto scampered away, Sagna obviously wasn't nearly so lucky, and Arsenal are going to have to do without one of their most consistent performances for what sounds like a very long time.
The Gunners don't appear to have much option but to use Carl Jenkinson at right back, but considering how poorly he's been playing during his cameos in the league, that's not a particularly palatable choice. With Sagna out long term and the transfer window not opening up again until January, the next few months are going to be sink or swim time for the 19-year-old.
