Monterrey may have come into the season with hopes of an FMF title to add to their CONCACAF Champions League win last season, but Week 14 sees them fighting to even qualify for the Liguilla. The defending North American champions find themselves in 8th place almost halfway through the season, and with the split between the championship (top eight) and relegation halves (bottom eight) set after Week 17 and Monterrey only one point away from thirteenth, their clash against UANL Tigres has very real importance for their season. It’s not just a derby anymore.
UANL Tigres Vs. Monterrey, 2011 Apertura: Season On The Line For Visitors
Despite Tigres being far higher up the table in forth place, there's some hope for the visitors. Tigres managed to lose to Moreila last week and both David Toledo and Lucas Lobos will be missing, denying the hosts two starting players. Monterrey, of course, are missing Aldo de Nigris (which could explain their relatively poor season) - the striker will be sorely missed in this one.
It’s going to be incredibly tight at the Estadio Universitario. The Clasico Regiomontano with a season on the line? Yes please!
