Chelsea lead Arsenal by a score of 2-1 at halftime of their huge Premier League clash, but in all honesty, both teams should have a couple more. The defending in this match has been incredibly poor, with Chelsea having a goal disallowed for an unnecessary offside and Arsenal missing a couple of sitters. Chelsea also had a couple of instances in the opening five minutes where they had yards of room to get crosses in, but couldn’t convert. Something like 3-2 or 4-3 would be more fitting based on the way this one has gone.
Chelsea Vs. Arsenal Live, 2011 Premier League: Halftime, Chelsea Ahead 2-1
The Blues got the opener in the 15th minute, just after Gervinho and Robin van Persie had missed easy chances set up by Theo Walcott. Frank Lampard was the scorer, heading in a great cross by Juan Mata as Per Mertesacker lost his footing, and as a result, completely lost Lampard.
Robin van Persie redeemed himself with a goal later in the half, and Chelsea's defense was terrible on the sequence. Aaron Ramsey set up the chance with a ball into the box, which Gervinho laid off for van Persie to tap into the back of the net.
But Chelsea would take a deserved lead in first half stoppage time, with John Terry providing the finish. Once again, Arsenal's poor set piece marking was their undoing, as Terry was left to put in an easy finish from six yards out on a corner kick to give his team a 2-1 lead.
