This just in: Barcelona are better than Mallorca. Lionel Messi is good at football. I know, I know, those two revelations are somewhat less than earth-shattering, but constructing a narrative out of a routine Barcelona win at the Camp Nou is... difficult. There's not a whole lot to say beyond 'Barcelona good, Mallorca bad', is there? I mean, the goals were kind of cool, and Lionel Messi managed three of them in sixteen minutes, but going on about how good Messi is seems kind of cliched.
Barcelona Vs. Mallorca, 2011 La Liga: Surprise! Barcelona Win
What the hell, I’ll do it anyway: Lionel Messi is kind of amazing. A penalty got him on the board, but his other two goals were pretty good, especially the lovely left footed finish from Dani Alves’s 30th minute cross. Messi scored more goals today than Mallorca had shots, although the visitors did manage not to drop below 30% posession. The non-Messi goals were fun too - Isaac Cuenca scored a typical Barcelona goal on his Camp Nou debut and Dani Alves capped off the evening with an amazing long-range strike to make it 5-0 in the last minute of injury time.
Yeah, it’s boring when Barcelona do this. It’s also breathtakingly pretty.
