Jaguares Chiapas Vs. Pumas UNAM, 2011 Apertura: Full Time, Hosts Roll In 4-0 Win

Things went easily for Jaguares Chiapas at home on Saturday night, as Pumas UNAM’s terrible road form continued. Jaguares are now all but locked into a Liguilla place going into the final matchday, while Pumas will now need a result on the last day to stay in the top eight, thanks to Jaguares’ 4-0 demolition of their visitors in Chiapas.

Most of the damage was done in the first half hour of the game, allowing Jaguares to sit back for the majority of the match. Jackson Martinez grabbed his team’s first goal in the 10th minute, tapping in a rebound after Alejandro Palacios saved, but could not control a shot from Christian Valdez. Palacios would find himself beat again just 10 minutes later, as he allowed Edgar Andrade to beat him near post with a direct free kick that put Jaguares up 2-0 in the 20th minute.

With seven teams on the outside of Liguilla within just three points of eighth placed Monterrey, Jornada 16 of the 2011 Apertura is still very much about the race for the playoffs. However, most eyes will not be on the race for the bottom spots, but on a couple of matchups between top Liguilla-placed sides, as well as a Guadalajara derby. Chivas play their third rivalry game in four matches as they take on Club Atlas in the Clasico Tapatio.
