The Superlider Curse is very much alive, and Chivas Guadalajara have a ton of work to do to get themselves back into the title hunt. Queretaro have defeated the Goats by a final score of 2-1 at home, forcing Chivas into a situation where they must win by two in the second leg at home. Both Queretaro goals were scored by Carlos Bueno, who had an absolutely magnificent game for the Gallos Blancos. However, Chivas were able to claw back a goal in stoppage time, scored by ‘Chaton’ Jorge Enriquez.

Queretaro’s first goal came after just eight minutes on a spectacular individual effort. From the edge of the penalty area, Bueno turned with the ball at his feat and bent a left-footed shot into the back of the net at the far post, giving his team an early lead. They instantly became more defensive and sat on that one-goal lead for the rest of the half, denying Chivas chances.
The second half was more of the same, with Queretaro playing defensively, but both teams began to play a more physical game, forcing the referee to show four second half yellow cards. Chivas created more chances in the second half, but were still unable to find the breakthrough. The Gallos Blancos didn’t venture forward often, but in the 69th minute, they caught Chivas napping.
Emilio Lopez provided the assist for Bueno, but the goal was just as much about poor defending as it was good attacking play. Out on the left wing, Lopez toyed with substitute Xavier Baez with a few stepovers before putting a cross into the box. Bueno somehow got around Johnny Magallon to get onto the end of the ball and played a fantastic volley with his foot out in front of Magallon, despite the fact that his body was behind him. That gave Queretaro a 2-0 lead and Chivas were left stunned.
It looked until the very end as if Queretaro were going to win by two goals, but Chivas found a miracle at the end. Chaton got up to put in a header in the 93rd minute, rising up to get on the end of a cross from Alberto Medina. Vicente Sanchez was caught well out of his position in his goal, and Queretaro's cushion is one goal smaller than it should be heading to Estadio Omnilife.
