VIDEO: Sal Zizzo Really Opened A Food Cart In Portland

If you've ever been to Portland, you're probably aware of the food cart culture. Basically, parking lots all over the city are filled with carts serving relatively cheap -- and often quality -- eats. The latest addition to this phenomena is a cart owned by Portland Timbers midfielder Sal Zizzo, who has opened an Italian-themed cart called Zizzo's FC.

From the look of it, this is no fly-by-night operation. Zizzo’s family runs a small chain of Italian restaurants in the San Diego area, so it’s not like he’s just doing this on a lark. In this video (h/t Stumptown Footy), he does admit that he’ll rarely be working the cart -- that has apparently been left up to his longtime friend -- but it does look pretty tasty.

The cart seems to make so much sense that I’m actually a little surprised that more athletes in Portland haven’t done it. Running a cart like this is certainly less expensive than owning a brick-and-mortar restaurant, but athletes are constantly investing in those (and often losing their shirts).

Even as a Sounders fan, I must say I’d be inclined to check this out.
