Marseille Vs. PSG, 2011 Ligue 1: L’OM Pull Off Massive Upset Win

Marseille are a team with talented players and a quality European record. Paris Saint-Germain are near the top of the table in Ligue 1, but have been far from convincing. On Sunday, the two sides met at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille in one of France's best derbies, but Marseille were not given much of a chance to win thanks to their poor domestic record. In one match, they proved that their record might have been a fluke.

Didier Deschamps somehow avoided the sack throughout Marseille’s bad run of form, and he’s probably going to be avoiding that sack quite a bit longer thanks to L’OM’s 3-0 victory over PSG on Sunday evening. PSG were terrible as they failed to get a shot on target during the match, while Marseille’s finishing was fantastic.

Loic Remy gave Marseille the lead after just nine minutes, getting between PSG’s defenders before winning a header and powering it into the back of the net. Remy picked up an injury and was replaced by Jordan Ayew in the 32nd minute, but PSG did no better dealing with the younger Ayew brother’s pace than they did with Remy’s power.

It took until the 65th minute for them to find another, but it felt like the obvious dagger when Morgan Amalfitano scored, assisted by Jordan Ayew on the counter-attack. Amalfitano would provide an assist as well, hitting a great cross onto the head of Andre Ayew, who put the icing on the cake with his 85th minute goal, much to the delight of Montpellier, Lille and Olympique Lyonnais.
