Carling Cup 2011, Quarterfinals Preview: Chelsea Face Liverpool, Arsenal Host Manchester City

Two huge Tuesday matches headline this week’s Carling Cup quarterfinal action, with Chelsea hosting Liverpool and Arsenal entertaining Manchester City.

We've got some exciting matches in store in the Carling Cup, with all five of the Premier League's biggest guns in action in the quarterfinals, games which include Chelsea against Liverpool and Arsenal vs. Manchester City. Granted, we might not see the sorts of players that we're used to from the top teams, because this competition is taken a little less seriously and because both Liverpool and City played on Sunday, but it's always a treat to see teams of this sort of calibre take each other on in knockout competitions and both games could go either way.

In addition to the two marquee matches, we have Championship promotion hopefuls Cardiff City hosting 2012/13 Championship promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers, which ensures that there'll be at least one relatively lowly team making the semi-finals, while on Wednesday Crystal Palace are rewarded for their cup run with a visit to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. There's an opportunity to take a prize scalp there, but they'll have to work very hard for it.

Here’s the full schedule for the Carling Cup quarterfinals:

Tuesday

Cardiff City vs. Blackburn Rovers, 7:45 PM GMT (2:45 PM EST)
Chelsea vs. Liverpool, 7:45 PM GMT (2:45 PM EST)
Arsenal vs. Manchester City, 8:00 PM GMT (3:00 PM EST)

Wednesday

Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace, 7:45 PM GMT (2:45 PM EST)
