Queretaro are almost in their first ever Liguilla playoffs, thanks to their big 3-0 win over Estudiantes Tecos. While their qualification is not a mathematical certainty, four other games would all have to go against the Gallos Blancos for them to be left out of the tournament.
Queretaro Vs. Estudiantes Tecos, 2011 Apertura: Bofo Bautista Snaps Goalless Streak As Gallos Blancos Win
Just as stunning as a previously poor Queretaro team on a low budget getting into a playoff spot was a goal by 'Bofo' Adolfo Bautista, a forward who has represented Mexico 37 times and scored over 100 goals in the Mexican Primera, breaking his goal drought. Bofo had not scored for 616 days in the Mexican Primera before he scored Queretaro's opener and eventual winner in the 61st minute, putting in the rebound off of a saved Carlos Bueno shot.
Jose Martinez Salas and Sergio Ponce scored the other two goals, and Queretaro easily could have scored more as Tecos looked like a beaten and lifeless side. They’re now very much in a relegation scrap, and the Tijuana Xolos can throw a little bit of dirt on Tecos’ grave while helping Queretaro’s cause with a good result on Sunday.
