Bayern Munich held on in Augsburg for a 2-1 victory thanks to a late, brilliant save from Manuel Neuer.
Augsburg Vs. Bayern Munich, 2011 Bundesliga: Bayern Hang On In Augsburg
Edmond Kapllani broke into the Munich penalty area in the 86th minute, but his left footed effort was superbly saved by the Bayern and Germany number one.
The first half was all Bayern, and the scoring was started by... who else?... Mario Gomez. The forward found himself on the end of a Franck Ribery corner kick, and his header found the back of the net in the 16th minute. Ribery doubled the lead 12 minutes later when he beat Mohamed Amsif with a left footed shot to the far post.
Augsburg pulled one back through Hajime Hosogai in the 59th minute when the Japanese international put a loose ball in front of the net across the line. The ball was cleared by David Alaba, but the ball had already crossed the goal line.
Jupp Heynckes chose to replace the injured Bastian Schweinsteiger with 19 year old Alaba. Schweinsteiger had surgery on his broken collarbone this week, and is expected to be out until the new year.
