Luis Suarez is not doing a good job of keeping himself out of the news. On top of the eight-game ban for racial abuse that he has not yet begun to appeal, he's been handed a one-game ban by the FA for making an obscene hand gesture towards the Fulham crowd. And since this is 2011 and this is the internet: That means he stuck up his middle finger. He flipped them the bird. In addition to being suspended, Suarez was fined £20,000.
Liverpool Fined, Luis Suarez Suspended For Finger Gesture Against Fulham
Following a couple of less than professional incidents in the match between Liverpool and Fulham, the FA has fined both the club and Luis Suarez, while suspending Suarez for one game.
The club was also fined £20,000 and warned about controlling their players' conduct in future matches, but not because of Suarez's finger gesture. Instead, that was for "failing to control their players" in a separate incident. Jay Spearing was shown a straight red card for a bad tackle in that same match against Fulham, for which the Liverpool players harassed the referee.
Suarez will serve his suspension during Friday's game against Newcastle United.
