Wigan Athletic are not a very good team. Arsenal, despite a horrible run to start the season, kind of are. It comes, therefore, as no surprise that Arsenal gave the poor Latics something of a thumping at the DW Stadium. In fact, the only real shocker about this match was that Robin van Persie only scored one goal.
Wigan Athletic Vs. Arsenal, 2011 Premier League: Easy Win For Gunners
Arsenal quickly snuffed out a bright start from Wigan, but it took nearly half an hour for the visitors to really make a mark. Fortunately for the Gunners, when they got going, they did so emphatically, with Mikel Arteta getting them on the scoresheet with a long-range effort that Ali Al-Hasbi really should have saved before Thomas Vermaelen made it 2-0 with a header from a corner.
Gervinho would take advantage of a spilled shot by Al-Habsi to make it 3-0 in the second half before van Persie, who's been on a ludicros scoring run since the beginning of the year, made it four when a right-footed finish from Theo Walcott's cutback squirmed its way into the back of the net.
