There weren’t many surprises, but as expected many of the biggest names were removed from the list of players eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft. The first stage of the draft will be held on Monday, with Stage 2 being held a week later.
MLS Re-Entry Draft 2011: List Of Players Finalized
Among the players to be removed from the list were Houston Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell, new Sporting Kansas City midfielder Bobby Convey and new San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Jean Alexandre. Vancouver Whitecaps goalkeeper Jay Nolly and Joe Cannon were also removed. All of these players either re-signed contracts with their old teams or were traded and signed contracts with their new teams. DC United midfielder Santino Quaranta's name was also removed from the list, but no announcement has been made about his signing a new contract.
There are still some interesting players on the list, including Chicago Fire midfielder Baggio Husidic, Dynamo defender Hunter Freeman, DC United defender Clyde Simms, Real Salt Lake midfielder Andy Williams and Seattle Sounders forward Nate Jaqua.
