As expected, Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers have agreed to a fee for central defender Gary Cahill. Chelsea FC blog We Ain't Got No History reported the news just before the Christmas holiday, but Bolton manager Owen Coyle confirmed today that Bolton has accepted Chelsea's £7 million offer for the defender, and that Cahill has been allowed to discuss personal terms with Chelsea. In reality, Cahill has probably been allowed to discuss personal terms for a week and will ink a contract on January 1.

Chelsea and Bolton have agreed to a fee for Gary Cahill, and the player is expected to agree to personal terms and sign a contract on January 1.
Alex has been frozen out of the Chelsea team, while Branislav Ivanovic is preferred at right back to central defense, John Terry isn't getting any younger, and David Luiz has not quite lived up to expectations. Depth at central defense was something that Chelsea needed to address in January, and they've done just that. Don't expect Cahill to be first choice for Chelsea anytime soon, but at the price it's a solid depth signing for a club of Chelsea's stature.
